Effective ways to use Vincent
...in battle, of course.
Vincent is not as powerful as other characters in FF7. You'll find that he's at his best when transformed, but there's a catch: you can't control him then. To get more control on Vincent, a good idea is to provide him with an alternative attack in case you want to delay or avoid his transformation for some reason. Here are some tips:
- Don't equip Materias you could need at any point of the battle, like Restore or Revive, on Vincent. This way you can use his Limit Breaks more freely, without having to give up the chance to cast important spells.
- It's good to equip Vincent with Materias like Time+All, Barrier, Pre-Emptive or such. The kind of Materia which you use in the beginning of a battle. Don't forget an offensive spell and a summon (Vincent is good at casting offensive spells), but choose the ones you won't regret not to have if he reaches Limit Break.
- Take notice of what element his attacks are in the transformed form. For instance, if you're fighting a monster who is healed by Fire, avoid using Galian Beast. See the Limit Breaks page for further information.
- I find it a good idea to equip Vincent with Deathblow or (even better) Steal at level 2 (with the Mug command available). This gives you the chance to perform a physical attack (thus using no MP or Item) even when his Limit gauge is full.
Remember, when you use the Limit Break, Vincent is instantly healed. Moreover, if you're using Galian Beast or Death Gigas, the max HP is increased. It is doubled for Death Gigas, and multiplied by 1.3 for Galian Beast. For Hellmasker and Chaos, the maximum HP is unchanged.
If you get control over Vincent's most important feature (the Limit Breaks), you'll find the results are amazing.
